A visit to Slough Registry Office
Some of the Post 16 students recently had an incredible opportunity to visit the Slough Registry Office, guided by the knowledgeable Superintendent Registrar, Mrs Tajinder Bahia. The visit began with a tour of the offices, where the students learned about the various roles within the registry. They were particularly intrigued by a talk in the beautifully appointed wedding ceremony room, gaining insights into the significance of weddings and the responsibilities of a registrar.
To their great surprise and excitement, the students were then granted access to the Registry Vault, which houses records dating back to 1834! The vault was opened with a remarkably long key, adding to the sense of occasion. Inside, they discovered an array of historical documents, including birth and death certificates and marriage records of Slough residents from the past two centuries.
The visit was not only educational but also a thrilling experience for the young people, leaving them with a deeper appreciation of local history and the important role that registrars play in the community.
