Art allows our students to freely express their feelings and imagination, through sensory exploration and tactile learning. Students at Arbour Vale are given the opportunity to develop a range of creative skills, like drawing and painting. As well as important skills like fine motor and coordination.

In Early Years Art is taught through the Expressive Arts and Design area of learning. Activities are carefully planned to adhere to the focus of each Half Term and intertwines learning from other subjects. Students are introduced to different Art mediums and encouraged to explore materials freely.
The Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils follow the National Curriculum which is adapted to meet their needs. Similarly to EFYS, Art focusses on the main topics for each half term. Further linking to what is being taught across different subject areas. This allows for a collaborative learning approach and develops students understanding of what is being taught. Students are encouraged to explore a range of different mediums, from collage, to developing their painting skills.
At AVS we aim to teach our KS1 and 2 pupils
For Key Stage 3 and 4 students, Art has become part of STEAM (formally known as STEM). Working alongside Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Work follows the chosen STEAM topic of each term and students work on creating art pieces that coincide with each termly topic. Students create art pieces that promote key art skills and fundamentals. Such as mark making, texture, form and perspective. There is further support for the development of each students’ fine motor skills, as well as creative outlook.
