Post-16 students host Signature Care Home residents
Post-16 students were delighted to welcome residents from Signature Care Home into school for a special VE Day-themed coffee morning. Some of the students attend the care home every week for work experience and they were keen to show some of the residents their school and look after them for the morning.
Students worked hard planning the event. They went to the supermarket to buy cakes and biscuits and liaised with the care home to make sure they could give the elderly residents a warm welcome.
On the day, they tidied Arbour Vale House and put chairs out in the garden. They decorated the table with union jack tablecloths and napkins and then it was time to put the kettle on and cut up the cake.
By the time the visitors arrived the students were very excited to see them and gave them a very warm welcome before taking them to the garden and serving them teas, coffees and cakes. They sat with the residents and were delighted to find out some of them had worked as teachers before they had retired so they had plenty to talk about.
After everyone was refreshed the students took the visitors on a tour of the classrooms, IT room and relaxation rooms. They explained to the visitors about life in Post-16, their job rota and techniques they used to regulate and relax if they ever felt overwhelmed.
Before long it was time to say goodbye and the students helped them on to the bus and waved them on their way.
