Secondary STEAM Toy project

Secondary pupils have been taking part in a special STEAM project to design and build electric toys in their classes. STEAM stands for Science Technology Engineering Art and Maths and this project enabled our pupils to use all these skills and more to design their interactive toys.

Each class researched their ideas and then had to make a small electric motor that was capable of moving their toys. Next came the design phase and as always, the classes came up with some incredibly creative ideas. Finally, they had to build and test their designs before entering them into our STEAM Fair which was held in the sports hall.

There was an incredible array of toys on display and all the secondary classes came to look and admire each other’s designs. They also got to vote on a top 3!

There was a fantastic variety of toys on show with some classes going down the route of creating recognisable characters such as the Coca-Cola truck and even Wall-E the robot from the Pixar animation film studio. There were also cars and bugs including a big black spider, and ladybird. One class came up with the innovative idea of creating pictures with light up eyes, another made a whirly gig windmill and another just designed crazy spinning tops!

Well done to all our secondary pupils for their creativity and for building such an exciting range of electric toys. The end result was a true display of all aspects of STEAM!
