Sensory Processing Parent Workshop
On Tuesday 10 February, we welcomed parents into school for a Sensory Processing Workshop delivered by the CYPIT Team occupational therapists, Catherine Smith and Louise Brown.
The session gave parents practical insight into how sensory processing works and, crucially, how it links to behaviour, communication and emotional regulation. The team explored the eight senses in detail, including vestibular, proprioceptive and tactile processing, and shared simple strategies families can use at home to better support their child.
The workshop also created space for open discussion, allowing parents to ask questions and share experiences with one another – something many said they really value.
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with parents highlighting how helpful it was to understand how sensory needs influence day-to-day regulation.
Parent feedback included:
-
“I learnt a lot about how sensory processing works.”
-
“I learnt that sensory, behaviour and communication all work together for my child to regulate him daily.”
-
“I got to learn about the 8 senses in detail.”
-
“I enjoyed discussing and sharing with other parents.”
-
“It was quite useful especially to know about vestibular, proprioceptive, and tactile.”
These regular workshops continue to strengthen the partnership between school and home, giving families the confidence and practical tools to support their children beyond the classroom.
