STEM Showcase at Arbour Vale

Students have been proudly showing off the projects they’ve created this term as part of their STEM curriculum and the imagination on display has been brilliant.

Last term, the focus was on inventions and how they’ve changed the world, from early concepts through to the tech we rely on today. (Think: the humble telephone and its journey from a clunky wired box to the tiny computer in your pocket.)

This term, students took things a step further. Working in groups, they chose an invention, developed a theme, and built a practical model to bring their idea to life.

Every item in the exhibition was made from recycled materials. Scrap fabric, plastic bottles, cardboard, and all sorts of other bits rescued from the bin. Students also leaned into technology, using AI to create images of their inventions once they had mapped out their ideas. Each group had to explain why their invention matters and the difference it could make.

Here’s a taste of what they created:

  • A water-filtration system made from stones and plastic bottles
  • A 3-in-1 broom that sweeps, collects and washes – all in one clever too
  • A recycled-materials mop station with everything in easy reach
  • A solar-powered car and a mini toy car to demonstrate the design
  • An “outfit picker” that helps you dress for sunshine, cold weather or even a wedding
  • A grabber designed to help pick up and pass objects
  • A watering system for seeds and plants

Students then voted for their top three projects, and the winners will be revealed in the final assembly of the term – so keep an eye out!
