Supporting Parents Through Key Conversations and Transitions

By Karen Morgan - June 11th, 2026 | Posted in Article, News

Arbour Vale School recently welcomed parents to two informative workshops designed to support families in navigating important aspects of their child’s development and education.

The first workshop, held on 9 June 2026, focused on transition and was led by Educational Psychologist Zoe Price. The session provided parents with the opportunity to explore the challenges and opportunities that transitions can bring, while sharing strategies to help children prepare for change and build confidence during key stages of their educational journey.

Parents valued the chance to discuss their experiences and ask questions in a supportive environment. Feedback highlighted the importance of helping families feel prepared and equipped for upcoming transitions.

One parent commented:

“It’s really important to get parents prepared for transition. It’s useful to talk about it and to learn strategies.”

Others described the workshop as providing “a whole picture and framework about transition” and said it was “very helpful.”

Just two days later, on 11 June 2026, the school hosted a Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Consultation Workshop led by members of the PSHE team: Claire Shottesbrooke, Jamie Larbalestier and Catarina Francisco.

The workshop gave parents an opportunity to learn more about the RSE curriculum, understand what their children will be taught and discuss how they can support learning at home. The session also provided reassurance and clarity around a subject that can sometimes feel challenging for families to navigate.

Feedback from parents was overwhelmingly positive, with many appreciating the openness of the discussion and the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the curriculum.

Comments included:

“Everything was explained perfectly.”

“I got a clear understanding of what RSE will be taught in school to my child.”

“I feel more comfortable about this being taught to my child.”

“To know exactly what my child would be learning.”

At Arbour Vale School, we recognise the importance of working in partnership with parents and carers. Workshops such as these provide valuable opportunities to share information, answer questions and ensure families feel informed, supported and confident in helping their children thrive both in school and beyond.
